Tillers Harvest Fest

Tillers Harvest Fest

Sunday, September 24th
11:00 am – 5:00 pm
10515 East OP Avenue, Scotts MI 49088

KALSEE is proud to be Platinum Sponsor of the 15th Annual Tillers International Harvest Fest.

The day will be filled with draft animal farming demos (oxen and draft horses), skill-sharing in the blacksmith and woodshops, sorghum harvest and pressing (to make molasses), ox-driving, wagon rides, an all-day shoe-making demo by Cliff Pequet from the Center for Traditional Arts in Shipshewana, IN, an herb-walk with Brenna Pixley of Nativistic Botanicals, a solar power demo by Art Toy, a barrel firing by folks from Kalamazoo Cooperage, a portable sawmill demo by Primal Woods, fiber spinning, wheat and bean threshing, not to mention vendors, live music (including a shape-note and circle singing workshop), and local food trucks. Kids should be prepared to meet the challenge of the Harvest Fest farm-wide scavenger hunt and the Michigan Barn Preservation Network’s model timber frame raising.

At 3pm, retired WMU professor of Environmental Studies Maynard Kaufman and Michigan Organic Food and Farm Alliance members will discuss the new book “The Organic Movement in Michigan.” Learn about the history and current issues of organic farming and how you can be involved in shaping the future of Michigan’s organic movement.

And, of course, Collection Curator Jim Slining will be on hand to guide visitors through Tillers’ Museum.

Cost of admission: $10/car, bicyclists free
